In an interview with Nick Barthel, Esq., Alana Semuels of TIME discusses how United States consumers are currently navigating through an epidemic level of scams and fraud. Specifically, just in 2023 alone, 3,205 reported data breaches impacted around 353 million individuals. With this, Barthel talks about his one client whose family lost $400,000 when a scammer, armed with one of their Social Security numbers, was able to call Bank of America, change the password and information on their account, and wire the family’s savings out of their account.
